SYMPTOMS OF GUM DISEASE
Being aware of gum disease symptoms is the first step to better oral health!
We encourage all patients to watch for the following:
- Swollen or puffy gums
- Signs of inflammation
- Infection around the base of the tooth
- Bleeding gums
- Shifting or loose teeth
- Chronic bad breath
- Tooth pain
STAGES OF GUM DISEASE
Many people do not realize that gum disease is a progressive disease and that leaving the early stages untreated means the infection will spread and get worse. Over time, you will see a complete destruction of the gums and the bone. Many people end up losing their teeth because of gum disease but you don’t have to be one of them! The three main stages of gum disease are:

Gingivitis
This stage is reversible and the most noticeable signs are puffy or swollen gums.

Periodontal Disease
At this stage, the gums are infected and you may notice excessive bleeding, bad breath and tooth pain.

Advanced Periodontal Disease
The effects of gum disease are irreversible at this stage since you will have lost bone and gum tissue. The risk of losing teeth is very high.
