Gingivitis is the earliest stage of gum disease and can be treated with early intervention. If you have swollen gums or gums that bleed easily, there is a good chance it is gingivitis. If you ignore these symptoms and continue on with your daily life, the problem can develop into periodontitis which means the gums and bone are at risk of being destroyed. At this stage, you might see pockets forming around the root of the tooth and you might have chronic bad breath.

Dr. Pack has extensive experience treating gum disease and has worked on many complex cases throughout his career. He is an Assistant Attending Periodontist in the Department of Surgery at New York Presbyterian Hospital and is also a member of the Academy of Periodontology. He uses laser dentistry and other innovative techniques to treat diseased tissue with minimal trauma and pain. He can also perform restorative procedures to rebuild the gums and enhance your smile after gum disease.

Your treatment options include:

Laser Gum Therapy

A targeted, effective and minimally invasive procedure that treats the infection in one visit (in most cases). Your gums heal quickly and typically there is no downtime involved.

Ideal for patients with moderate to severe gum disease.

Moderate to Severe Gum Disease

Osseous Surgery

Reshapes damaged bone to reduce pockets and smooth rough edges so that bacteria has less places to hide, and you can clean your teeth more effectively.

Ideal for patients with advanced gum disease that have not responded well to other periodontal treatments

Advanced Gum Disease

Scaling and Root Planing

A nonsurgical procedure that involves scraping away tartar and plaque buildup, clearing out the infection and polishing the teeth. Can reduce pocket depth by a few millimeters with proper aftercare.

Ideal for patients with mild to moderate gum disease.

Involves cutting away diseased tissue to eliminate pocketing around the teeth. Dr. Pack performs this procedure in house so there is no need to see an oral surgeon.

Ideal for patients with moderate to severe gum disease.
